About Mead & Hunt
Mead and Hunt, Inc. (Mead & Hunt) is a full-service architectural and engineering firm founded in 1900 with an expanding Mid-Atlantic cultural resource department. The department includes over 40 preservation professionals, including cultural resource compliance specialists, archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, historic preservation planners, GIS and CAD specialists, and administrative professionals operating out of Mead & Hunt’s Fredericksburg, Virginia; Wilmington, Delaware; and Trenton, New Jersey, offices. The larger Mead & Hunt National cultural resource team nationwide adds another 20 individuals to this pool. Together, more than 35 staff members exceed the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards. Such a breadth of qualifications and availability supports the successful completion of all cultural resource goals.
The Mid-Atlantic Department of Mead & Hunt has extensive experience conducting cultural resource studies in the region. The team has completed almost 1,700 projects in the mid-Atlantic states, highlighting our knowledge of the area and commitment to studying the precontact and historic past. Our technical studies have ranged from preliminary desktop reviews through complex archaeological data recoveries and intensive-level architectural studies. Of particular note is our capacity to perform large and complex technical projects. Over the past five years alone, we have surveyed more than 10,000 acres of land and thousands of miles of linear corridors, in the process recording well over 2,000 architectural resources and hundreds of archaeological sites with accompanying archival research. Our archaeological laboratory processes more than 100,000 artifacts per year. We also have the ability to perform multiple large technical projects at once. In the summer and fall of 2025, for example, we completed archival research, fieldwork, lab analysis, and reporting on three data recoveries in Maryland concurrently to allow a key transportation project to stay on schedule.
